Village of Mattawan - Tom
Anthony, DPW Superintendent
When the Village of Mattawan's sewer system
was installed in 1998 it was designed to use Biocide in our main lift
station to treat the Hydrogen sulfide and odors in our 16 inch, 9 mile
long force main. With limited success and very unpleasant meetings with
the Mayor of the two communities next to us we were forced to add carbon
filters to the air relief valves and put gaskets on the manholes and add
odor masking contraptions to make the complaints go away. While the
complaints did stop we were spending $35,000 to treat the odors in the
main lift station and another $5,000 to treat for grease in the other 4
stations, not to mention the odor masking units.
That is when we were approached by Enviro-Safe who said they could control our odors, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and grease with one all natural product and save us thousands of dollars in the process. To say the least I was skeptical but intrigued. We gave them a 3 month trial and after the trial I was impressed. The grease cap was considerably smaller and not a rock hard mess, and more importantly my H2S was dramatically reduced and my odors were gone. I was so impressed that I added 3 of my other stations to the contract and still saved the village $12,000 a year, and was able to free up my employees time. I even had to lower the amp alarms on 2 of my lift station pumps because the pumps were drawing fewer amps. We had such a grease problem in our number 2 lift station we were cleaning it with high pressure hoses and degreaser every 2 weeks, had it sucked out once a month and had at least one overtime call in from a float tipping or not tipping because of the grease. At one point the grease was so hard that our degreasers wouldn't cut through it, and it plugged our transducer tube so the level wouldn't read out right, it wouldn't allow the back up floats to tip to start the pump. I was lucky that I stopped by on my way home from a meeting because the 35 foot deep station was 3 feet from the top. I tell you these stories because we no longer have grease caps on our station, grease on the sides, or on the floats. We haven't changed a carbon filter in years, and no longer have odor complaints. Over the years Enviro-safe technologies and PX-700 has saved the Village of Mattawan roughly $100,000 in chemical cost, pay roll and has certainly prolonged the live of our system by lowering or eliminating our H2S, and freed up countless hours of public works staff time. This being the 8th year the sewer system is on line and the 6th year we have used PX-700 I decided to have the bottom of our lift stations cleaned out and any sludge build up removed. With the size of our stations and the traps in the bottom of them I estimated it to cost the village $35,000, but it was discovered that we didn't have any sludge buildup in our stations and spent only $3,500 to have them cleaned. That allowed me to complete some radio communication upgrades that I was going to do the following budget year. One of the great things is that Enviro-safe takes care of everything. We receive a report on the condition and chemical make up of each station, they fill their dispenser tanks and repair the pumps when needed. The customer service is only seconded by their products. City of Naples, Florida - David A. Graff, Utilities Maintenance Superintendent The City of Naples Florida, Odor & Corrosion Control program for our Wastewater Collection System, has been utilizing PX-700 product for the past several months. The program has functioned far beyond our expectations. PX-700 has performed better than the product that we had utilized for the previous three (3) years. |
